This oneday, handson course covers basic ClearCase usage for all environments. For software developers, we recommend this course followed by the oneday ClearCase Intermediate course. 

ClearCase ® Intermediate

Recommended follow on to the ClearCase Fundamentals course for software developers. This oneday, handson course covers parallel development aspects of the tool required for most software development efforts.

This is a basic course for first-time Rational ClearCase users and developers requiring a practical, hands-on introduction to commonly used Rational ClearCase concepts and operations.

• At the end of this course, students will understand ClearCase concepts and will be able to use ClearCase tools and procedures to accomplish basic configuration management tasks.
• At the end of this course, students will understand the parallel development aspects of ClearCase and will be able to use ClearCase tools and procedures to accomplish typical software development configuration management tasks.

• Introduction: Introduction to ClearCase interfaces
• VOB Basics: Overview of the ClearCase repository
• View Basics: User access to ClearCase VOBs
• Version Tree: Version Tree usage
• Version Selection: Controlling version selection in views
• View-Private Files: User private workspace
• Create Views: Create and remove views
• Checkout Basics: Checkout, check-in, and undo checkout
• Checked-out but Removed: Checked-out/removed and eclipsed files
• Find Checkouts: Find and list checked-out elements
• Add to Source Control: Add new files to a directory
• Directory Modification: Changing directory structure in a VOB
• NonSelected Versions: Display/download a version outside the view
• Diff Tool: Diff element versions
• Merge Basics: Merge tool basics
• Merge Files: Merging file element versions
• Unreserved Checkouts: Unreserved checkouts, working in parallel on single branch
• Label Basics: Create, apply, and lock labels in base ClearCase
• Config Spec Basics: Basic config spec rules for version selection in base ClearCase
• Auto-branch Rules: Automatic branching with config specs in base ClearCase
• Batch Merge: Using the merge manager for batch merges in base ClearCase
• Review: Daily life cycle UCM exercise
• Directory Merge: Merging directories and handling conflicts
• View Extended Names: Alternate access to view data in the Unix environment
• Find: Basic syntax and usage for find command
• Find Queries: Element, branch, and version queries for the find command

• ClearCase Fundamentals course or equivalent ClearCase experience
• Basic knowledge of Unix interfaces
• Familiarity with the concepts of mounting and unmounting file systems
• No previous ClearCase experience
