Review and document all applications that may be effected by the upgrade
Review supported upgrade paths and make certain that applications will run under the specified version of AIX.
Overview of this plan with customer and get signoff.
Make sure that the system is eligible for an upgrade (disk space, condition of system etc.)
Take system backup before the actual upgrade.
Capture specific information such as: routing information, file system information, process information, print queues, device/configuration information etc, so that in the event that this data is lost during the upgrade, it can be restored.
Upgrade the AIX operating system.
Create Full System Backup (mksysb & user data)
Get customer input with respect to defining a test plan so that it is possible to declare success or failure
Perform this test plan and report results
Provide basic knowledge transfer if any new functionality.
Install additional LPPs/PTFs
Complete initial bootable backup including all customizations
